Do good and brand with green products

The rollout to ban single-use plastic is well underway, with South Australia well ahead. From 1 September 2021, businesses in Queensland are prohibited from using a variety of single-use plastic goods. This restriction is an effort to address the country’s growing plastic waste problem since there are more than 3.4 million tonnes of plastic consumed in Australia, and less than 10% of this is recycled. All other Australian states will follow suit by 2023

This is a state-wide interdiction so it will affect most Queensland companies including supermarkets, cafes, motels, takeaway food outlets and restaurants. Customers will also be impacted so this will necessitate behavioural changes on their part such as a shift away from single-use plastic items and practices.

Now’s your chance to go green

According to the World Wildlife Fund, more commonly known as the WWF: “Eight million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans every year, killing and harming marine life.” We can all do our bit to reduce this waste. You can start right now by:

  • Carrying a reusable coffee cup or flask. There are plenty of coffee outlets that offer a discount when you use your own cup.
  • Replacing your paper coffee cups with a variety of keep cups that you can brand.
  • Replacing juice and smoothie cups with keep-cup versions.
  • Replacing takeaway containers with lunch boxes for your regulars.
  • Reusing your plastic cutlery or choosing a compostable alternative.
